Membership
The LRDTC has trained thousands of dog owners, many of whom started out by taking an obedience class with their pet and ended up becoming long-term members of the club. Many of our members have gone on to earn titles in obedience, agility, conformation, rally, freestyle and other events. LRDTC has been fortunate to have many excellent trainers as members through the years. The dogs and titles they have earned are commemorated on the east and south walls of the club building, in the smaller training area. The wall of honor is a recognition of the hard work and dedication of current and past members to the sport of dogs. There are many great benefits to being a member of the LRDTC. Members enjoy making new friends, providing service to the club in various ways, having access to the training facilities, voting on club issues, and reduced class fees. There are many organized social activities for members throughout the year, such as the annual awards banquet, a picnic in June, and occasional hikes at various scenic locations. Members are asked to support the club by volunteering time for club activities. Members earn service hours for time contributed, and those who contribute at least 20 service hours per year are given access to the training building and agility field. There are many ways a member can earn service hours, including: cleaning the building, maintaining the grounds, helping with trials, assisting with class instruction, helping set up for orientation, and other activities that provide a service to the club. To be eligible to apply for membership, a student must complete either the Subnovice class or the Intro to Agility class with their dog (both classes have beginner obedience as a pre-requisite). Applicants must complete a membership application and must obtain the signatures of two sponsors that are current club members. Applicants must also attend two club meetings where their application for membership is read aloud. Membership dues are payable at the time of application, and annual dues are payable each January. Membership applications are available at the club. Ask any instructor or Board member for an application. |
