The Little Rock Dog Training Club (LRDTC)
is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose objective is to promote,
encourage, and share knowledge regarding dog training. The LRDTC, founded
in 1950, is an American Kennel Club licensed club.
We offer classes from Puppy
Kindergarten through advanced obedience. We also offer three levels of
Agility classes which is a great way to have even more fun with your dog.
Rally, Conformation, Tracking, and Freestyle are other activities members
pursue. The Club has helped thousands of people learn to train their dogs,
either for competition or just to be a more enjoyable pet. The number one
reason that dogs are placed in shelters or abandoned is lack of training and
the owner's frustration in dealing with that failing. Congratulations on
choosing to be a responsible pet owner and for wanting to have fun with your
dog.
All LRDTC instructors and assistants
are volunteers. Each instructor has trained, shown, and won titles on his or
her dog. They attend seminars and study all aspects of training. And
everyone here loves dogs. Our membership offers a wealth of knowledge and
experience about all breeds of dogs. We encourage you to ask any question or
raise any concerns you may have about your pet. You will find all of our
members eager to help you enjoy your dog more.
Classes are open to ALL dogs, purebred
or mixed breed, over eight weeks of age. Most classes are for eight weeks,
meeting for one hour each week. The dog must be in good health and all
immunizations must be current. Students should be at least 16 years of age,
unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. We want to make your training
experience as positive as possible.
LRDTC instructors will teach you how
to train using very positive methods. We strongly emphasize the word
"positive". Training will be fun for you and your dog. Dogs learn more if
they are having fun. Things are less stressful if your dog, and you, are
kept in a happy, upbeat mood. We want you both to have fun.
The essence of dog training is
communication: you must learn effective communication skill to increase
understanding between you and your dog. You will use communication to
modify your dog's behavior so that it is acceptable to you and other human
beings. The dog will feel more secure if he or she knows exactly what is
expected of him or her.
Having fun is very important in dog
training - and in your everyday life with your dog. If you are having fun
with what you are doing, then your dog will pick up on it and will begin to
have fun too. We all learn from one another: that is the main reason most
members of LRDTC joined. Many of our members' best friends are the folks
they have met at our club, because we all share the common goal of enjoying
our dogs more through training. Come and join us. |
